And, even though he really should be finishing that chart right now, Rick Hirsch operates this website. He's a musician and husband/father living in State College, PA.

I am a small-town jazz-guy, living in a nice college town three hours from the nearest major city. So, to make a living as such, I wear several different musical hats: composer/arranger, saxophonist, publisher, educator, music copyist, and band leader.  Phew!

The good news: I am never doing all of these things at once!  That would most certainly result in my untimely and unhappy demise.  :-0

PUBLICATIONS

I’ve been composing and arranging music since the late 1980’s.  From 1995-2010 I published most of my work with Walrus Music.  In 2010 I removed my titles from their catalog and began selling them on my own. I built this website and started pounding the pavement.  Since then my sales have increased about 10-fold, and are still growing.  (watch this short video).

On this site you will find PDF and Printed Music for Jazz Ensemble, Saxophone Quartet, Jazz Combo, and Jazz ‘Bones, all of which you can purchase directly from me.  You will also find free, downloadable Lead Sheets, Manuscript Paper, Jazz-Learning materials, and Saxophone-Practice materials.

CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA JAZZ

I still play in a few local bands.  So, if you live within striking-distance of State College—or if you're a Penn State alum returning to town—you may be interested in checking out these bands.
