This unusual piece for quartet is dedicated to one of the most-beloved tenor saxophonists of the 20th Century.  (Hint: read the title aloud to identify the man also known as Stanley the Steamer.)

Stan is a warm, original theme that is jazzy, but not necessarily
jazz.  Bob Mintzer's compositional influence may be evident to some listeners.  (I was Bob's copyist for several years, after all).

There is a brief optional ad-lib solo for your tenor player.  An excellent written-out solo is also provided.

Lastly, Stan was composed to be programmed both as a stand-alone piece and in suite with its two sister works, Paquito de Habana and Mancini digs that mambo.

Your download will include:

  • Soprano 1
  • Alto 1 (sub. for Sop.)
  • Alto 2
  • Tenor
  • Baritone
  • Full Score
