Why it is by no means a strict Irish Reel—how could it be when composed by a Jewish American with Eastern European roots?—Big Ben's Reel is a delightfully energetic romp of a saxophone quartet.

In fact, it's a bit of a multi-cultural Irish stew, with nods to Balkan music (alto) and good ol' American funk (tenor). And, for those of you familiar with my earlier work Cityscapes, you will appreciate the nod to Jewish-sounding music (baritone) as well.

Big Ben was commissioned by Ben Drouet, a wonderful English saxophone teacher. He had me write this piece for the Sax Pistols, a fantastic high-school aged saxophone quartet he coaches.

Lastly, the Folkdance in the title refers to a series of quartet works which are inspired by various and sundry folk dances. At present, there are two other works in development, albeit on the back burner.
