I just finished the fourth day in a week-long residency with the band program at Line Mountain Jr/Sr HS in Herndon, PA (30 min south & across the river from Lewisburg).  What a fantastic band program director Larry Fisher has created.  This school of 500 or 600 kids has 140 kids in the band.  And they are sounding good!

I've been working with the HS and the JrHS concert bands.  The HS band has been playing a brand new piece of mine (that they commissioned) entitled Mancini Digs That Mambo.  They're really kicking butt on it, completely unfazed by the syncopations galore.  And are all rising to the occasion of attempting to improvise in the "open-for-solos" section.

Yes, this is concert band — not jazz band.

In addition, we've had sectionals with every jazz band section, composition work with two music theory classes, and lots of good hang/Q&A time with the students.

And next Friday is our culminating event, with an opportunity to perform for family and friends at the annual "Pasta & Pops" dinner.  Mmmmm, pasta.

Good stuff all around!
