Is it a Mirage? or is it Omaha?

A couple of months ago I completed Mirage, a new large jazz ensemble work dedicated to my late teacher Yusef Lateef.  I sent it out to a few jazz-director friends of mine to give it a sight-read.

Well, to my pleasure, when the UNO Jazz Ensemble read it, they decided to keep it for their upcoming Spring concert.  I just received the recording (below) from director Pete Madsen and, boy, did they deliver the goods!

Even better: the day before the concert, I did a Skype rehearsal visit with the band.  (See the screenshot).  In addition to being exceptional young musicians, they're a most delightful, good-natured bunch.

Anyhow, go ahead and listen to their performance.  They shred it.

p.s. Special recognition to guest tenor soloist, UNO Saxophone Instructor Darren Pettit. He REALLY shreds it.
