Aspire is a medium-up jazz waltz that'll make you smile.
Unless, of course, you don't go for that sort of thing.
I wrote it in 2005 as part of a suite that paid tribute to the visionary volunteers in Bellefonte, PA. Beginning in the mid 1960s, these good folks converted a brownfield in the center of their town into a beautiful, welcoming city park.
Aspire began as a full big band tune, but quickly became a staple of my small groups' repertoire.
Please help yourself to the lead sheets (transposed in all of the usual ways) and recordings.
The sextet and big band versions are available for instant purchase and download. The sextet version follows the roadmap of the lead sheet. It is scored for three horns with some nice, lush voicings, and the rhythm section parts are notated as needed to help less experienced players.
And, heck, as in improvisation vehicle, it doesn't get much more inviting than a C Major pedal point!
